Chana Sundal / கொண்டைக்கடலை சுண்டல் - Navarathri Recipes





Ingredients

White Chana                   : 1 cup
Grated Coconut               : 1/4 cup
Red chillies                      : 2
Curry leaves                     : few
Mustard seeds                   : 1 tsp
Urad dal                            : 1 tsp
Asafoetida                         : 1/4 tsp
Oil                                      : 1 tbsp
Salt                                     : to taste 




Method

Wash & soak Chana overnight.
Pressure cook it with little salt for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal .
When mustard start to crackle,add Red chillies , curry leaves, and asafoetida.
Now add cooked Chana ,salt, mix well , cover & cook for 3-4 minutes.
Finally add grated coconut and stir for few minutes.

Paasi Payaru Sweet Sundal / Sweet Sundal / பாசிபயறு வெல்ல சுண்டல் - Navarathri Recipes



Ingredients

Green moong dal                 : 1 cup
Jaggery                                : 1/2 cup
Grated Coconut                   : 2 tbsps
Cardamom powder              : 1/4 tsp
Water                                   : 1/2 cup


Method

Soak gree nmoong dal  in water for 5 hours , pressure cook for 5 whistles .
Take a pan , add water , jaggery and let it boil.
Remove from flame , strain & boil again for 2 minutes.
Add cooked dal and mix well
Add grated coconut now , let it cook till the jaggery water gets incorporated well with the sundal.
Add cardamom powder , mix and remove from flame.
Serve..



Rava Pongal - Method (2) / ரவா பொங்கல்



Ingredients 


Roasted Rava : 1/2 cup 
Water : 1& 1/2 cups 
Moong dal : 1/4 cup 
Pepper : 1/2 tsp 
Jeera : 1/2 tsp 
Ginger : 1/4 tsp 
Curry leaves : few 
Ghee : 5 tbsp Salt : as needed 
Asafotida : a pinch 

Method 

Cook moong dal in a pressure cooker until it becomes soft. 
In a kadai , add ghee , put cumin seeds, whole pepper , ginger , cashews, curry leaves ,asafoetida and fry. 
Add 1/2 cups water , salt and bring to boil. 
Add roaster rava , reduce the flame and cook. 
Cook for 5 minutes or until rava gets cooked soft. 
Add little ghee if needed. 
Serve hot with coconut chutney.

Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal / தேங்காய் மாங்காய் பட்டாணி சுண்டல்




Ingredients

Dried Green peas            : 1 cup

Raw mango           : 2 tbsp ( peeled and chopped)
Grated coconut     : 3 tbsps cup
Green chillies       : 2 nos
Red chilly             : 1
Grated ginger       : 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds
Urad dal
Curry leaves
Salt
Asafoetida
Oil 



Method

Wash and soak green peas in water for 8 hours / overnight .
Pressure cook it with little salt for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
When mustard start to crackle,add chopped green chillies,Broken red chilly, curry leaves,ginger and asafoetida.
Now add cooked green peas ,salt and mix well.
Finally add grated coconut, chopped raw mango and stir for few minutes.
Serve..

Pottukadalai Urundai / பொட்டுகடலை உருண்டை






Ingredients

Pottukadalai   : 1 cup
Jaggery           : 1 cup
Water              : 3/4  cup



Method

Heat 1 cup of water in a deep pan and add the jaggery. 
Mix well and wait until the jaggery dissolves completely and filter the syrup to remove the impurities. 
Bring it to boil and let it cook till the syrup reaches soft ball consistency. 
To check the correct consistency, take a drop of jaggery syrup ,add it in a cup of water,if the syrup able to form a ball,then that is the correct consistency
Add pottukadalai to it ,mix and remove from fire.
Grease both the hands with ghee or with rice flour and roll tightly into balls. 
Let it cool,store it in an air tight container . 



Peanut Sundal / நிலக்கடலை சுண்டல் - Navratri Recipes



Ingredients

Peanut               : 1 cup
Grated coconut : 3 tbsps cup
Green chillies    : 2 nos 

Red chilly          : 1
Grated ginger    : 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds
Urad dal
Curry leaves
Salt
Asafoetida
Oil  



Method

Wash & soak Peanut overnight.
Pressure cook it with little salt for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
When mustard start to crackle,add chopped green chillies,Broken red chilly, curry leaves,ginger and asafoetida.
Now add cooked Peanut,salt and mix well.
Finally add grated coconut and stir for few minutes.
Serve.. 


 



Samai Paal Payasam / Little Millet Payasam / சாமை பாயசம்



Ingredients

Samai Arisi / Little millet          : 1 1/2 tbsp 
Milk                                       : 2 cups
Sugar                                     : 5 tbsps
Cardamom powder 
Saffron
Ghee
Cashewnuts


Method

Wash and pressure cook the samai with 1/2 cup milk for 2 whistles.
Remove from cooker, add the remaining milk, cook on low flame.
Add sugar,saffron, mix and let it cook for another 5 minutes on low flame.
Switch off the flame. 
Heat 1 tsp ghee,roast cashewnuts ,add it to the payasam and mix.
Serve..:)



White Channa Sundal / Chickpea Sundal ( with spice powder) - Navratri Recipes





Ingredients

White Channa    : 1 cup
Grated coconut : 1/2 cup
Green chillies    : 2 nos
Grated ginger    : 1/2 tsp 

Special Spice Powder for sundal  : 1 1/2 tbsp 
Turmeric powder   : 1/2 tspMustard seeds
Urad dal
Curry leaves
Salt
Asafoetida
Oil  




Method

Wash & soak Channa overnight.
Pressure cook it with little salt for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
When mustard start to crackle,add chopped green chillies,curry leaves,ginger and asafoetida.
Now add cooked channa,turmeric powder,salt and mix well.
Finally add grated coconut ,Special Spice Powder and stir & cook for few minutes. 
Serve.. 







Special Spice Powder for Sundal - Navratri Recipes



Ingredients

Coriander seeds         : 2 tbsps
Chana dal                   : 1 tbsp
Red chilly                    : 3 nos
Curry leaves                : 1 handful


Method

Dry roast the ingredients till golden brown.
Powder it when it is cool.
Store it in a air tight container and use it whenever required.

Paruppu Payasam with Palm Jaggery for Aadi Velli / ஆடி வெள்ளி / பருப்பு பாயசம் / பனை வெல்லம்



Ingredients 

Moong dal   : 1/2 cup 
Chana dal   : 1 tbsp
Palm Jaggery        : 1/4 cup 
Milk             : 3/4 cup 
Ghee            : 1 tbsp
Cashew nuts  : 1 tbsp
Cardamom powder  : 1/2 tsp
Chopped coconut pieces  : 1 tbsp 


Method 

Roast moong dal & chana dal with 1/2 tsp ghee until little brown.
In a pressure cooker add milk, 1/2 cup water and the roasted moong dal and cook upto 3 to 4 whistles.
Make a thick syrup with palm jaggery with little water.Add the cooked dal to the jaggery syrup, mix well add cardamom powder and let it boil on low flame for few minutes.
Remove from flame , fry cashewnuts and coconut pieces in the remaining  ghee and add it to the payasam.
Mix well and serve hot.

450th Post - Manoharam Recipe

Yeah..This Traditional Manoharam is my 450th Post and I am Very Happy to Celebrate this special post with you all Friends....I Thank Everyone for all the Support....:) 




Ingredients

Rice Flour      : 2 cups
Urad dal flour : 2 tbsps
Ghee               : 2 tbsps
Salt                 : a pinch
Jaggery           : 2 1/2 cups
Cardamom Powder 
Oil for deep frying


Method

In a wide bowl,mix rice flour,urad dal flour,ghee ,salt and mix throughly.
Sprinkle some water and prepare a dough.
Take small quantities of this dough and fill in a press ( Thenkuzhal achu).
Heat oil in a pan,press the mould over hot oil and allow the thenkuzhal to fry till golden brown.
Breakdown the full thenkuzhal into small pieces.
Dissolve the jaggery in 1/2 cup water and filter it.
Again heat up the jaggery water,Take a little water in a cup,add few drops of jaggery syrup,if it forms like a ball then remove from flame.
Add cardamom powder and add the syrup to the broken murukku mix well. 
While still worm ,press firmly into lemon sized balls.
YUMMY MAHOHARAM IS READY NOW...:)







MaaVilakku Recipe / மாவிளக்கு / ஆடி,தை மாதம்



Maavilakku for Aadi Velli / மாவிளக்கு ஆடிதை மாதம்  

Ingredients 

Raw Rice     : 1 cup
Grated Jaggery   : 1/2 + 1 tbsp
Cardamom          : 2 
Ghee                    :  1 tbsp
Wick                     : 1







Method

Wash and soak rice for 5 minutes.
Drain it for few minutes and spread it on a clean white cloth .
Grind the rice along with cardamom .
Add grated jaggery and mix everything well without adding water / milk.
On a plate shape the maavilakku ,pour ghee and place a Wick.
Light the wick and Offer Your Prayers. 





Vella Puttu



Ingredients

Raw flour    : 1 cup
Grated jaggery  : 1 cup
Grated coconut  : 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder
Ghee                 : 2 tbsps
Salt - a pinch
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Cashewnuts


Method

Dry roast rice flour for few minutes.
Add turmeric powder,salt to it,mix well and let it cool.
Sprinkle some warm water little by little and mix well.
Steam cook the flour for 20 minutes.
Dissolve jaggery in 1/4 cup water and drain it and bring to boil.
Take a little water in a cup, add few drops of jaggery syrup.
If you could able to make it a hard ball,that is the required consistency.
Switch off the flame .
Spread the steamed rice mixture in a wide plate,add grated coconut,cardamom powder and mix well.
Add the jaggery syrup to this and mix well.
Fry cashewnuts in ghee and add it to the puttu and mix well.
Serve and Enjoy.,,:)


Kalkandu Pongal - Navarathri Recipes



Ingredients

Raw rice      : 1 cup
Moong dal   : 1 tbsp
Milk            : 2 cups
Kalkandu     :2 cups 
Saffron
Cashewnuts
Cardamom powder
Ghee 3 tbsps


Method

Soak saffron in milk.
Wash rice and dal and pressure cook them with 2 cups milk + 2 cups water for 5 whistles.
Take out and mash the cooked rice well.
Add kalkandu ,saffron with milk,2 tbsps ghee and cook on low flame for 5 to 10 minutes.
Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Heat remaining ghee, fry cashewnuts and add it to the rice mixture and mix everything well.
Serve hot..

Rajma Sundal - Navratri Recipes



Ingredients

Rajma               : 1 cup
Grated coconut : 1/2 cup
Green chillies    : 2 nos
Grated ginger    : 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds
Urad dal
Curry leaves
Salt
Asafoetida
Oil 




Method

Wash & soak rajma overnight.
Pressure cook it with little salt for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
When mustard start to crackle,add chopped green chillies,curry leaves,ginger and asafoetida.
Now add cooked rajma,salt and mix well.
Finally add grated coconut and stir for few minutes.
Serve..

Moongdal         : 1 cup
Grated coconut : 1/2 cup
Green chillies    : 2 nos
Grated ginger    : 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds
Urad dal
Curry leaves
Salt

Oil

Method

Soak moongdal for 1 hour.
Cook them with little water.Add salt to it while boiling.
You need to be able to mash them with your fingers. It is enough to cook.
Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
When mustard start to crackle,add chopped green chillies,curry leaves,ginger and asafoetida.
Now add cooked moong dal and mix well.
Finally add grated coconut and stir for few minutes.
Serve..
