How to make Kozhukattai Maavu / Kozhukattai Maavu preparation

Ingredients

Raw Rice : 1 cup
Oil
Salt


Method

                                                         Wash & Soak rice in water for 1 hour.


                                                                        Drain the rice 


                                                  and spread it in a clean cloth for 10 minutes.


                                                                 Grind the rice to a fine powder.


                                                                  Sieve twice and keep aside.


                                                                       Boil 3/4 cup water in a pan 

                                                                   
                                                                              with little salt 



                                                                          & 1/2 tsp oil.


                                                                When the water starts to boil



                                                             add 1 cup rice flour,


                                                                 mix well and remove from fire.


                                                       Knead it well and cover with a wet cloth



                                                         Knead it again - Smooth & soft dough 


                                                                  make lemon sized balls


                                                          Make a cup of it with your fingers , 


                                                                               like this



Place any pooranam inside this cup and steam cook.

Pillayarpatti Mothagam / Pillayarpatti Kozhukattai / Pillayarpatti Modakam / பிள்ளையார்பட்டி மோதகம்



Ingredients

Raw Rice                   - 1 cup
Moong Dal                - 1/4 cup
Jaggery                      - 1 1/4 cup
Water                         - 2  cups
Coconut                    - 1/4 cup
Ghee                         - 1 tbsp
Cardamom               - 4 

Method

Roast rice and moong dal separately




Add cardamom and let it cool.


Put in a blender , 


powder it coarsely.



Take jaggery and water in a pan . let it boil



Strain the jaggery to remove any impurities

Bring it to a boil 


add the rice mix , 


add in grated coconut,

add ghee and mix everything well. keep stiring till it gets thick. Remove from flame and let it cool.


Take little portion , roll it into a ball shape.


Arrange the balls on a greased idli plate and steam cook for 15 minutes.




Delicious Pillayarpatti kozhakattais are ready now.

 An Easy Way to Make Mothagam / Modakam 





Ingredients For the Filling 

Grated coconut   : 1 cup
Jaggery               : 3/4 cup  
Cardamom powder
Ghee                 : 1 tsp

Method

Heat a pan add jaggery ,1 tbsp water and mix.
Strain it,add grated cconut and ghee to it ,mix well and keep it in the flame.
Stir well continuously till it roll like a ball.
Remove from fire and let it cool.

Ingredients for Kozhukattai mavu  

Raw Rice   : 1 cup

Method

Drain the rice and spread it in a clean cloth for 10 minutes.
Grind the rice to a fine powder.

Boil 1/2 cup water in a pan with little salt & 1/2 tsp oil.
When the water starts to boil,add 1/2 cup rice flour,mix well and remove from fire.
Knead it well and cover it.

Grease Steel Chapati maker with little oil.


Take lemon size dough ,make it into round shape,flatten it between the palms to make little disc.  



Place it on the chapati maker , close the upper plate and press.



The dough has now been rolled into the shape of a little poori. 



Add 1 tsp Pooranam / filling in the middle 



And close it. 

 


Steam cook for 5 to 8 minutes. 



Remove Gently & Serve....
